The Dallas Fire Department.

The queens and I arrived at the club early and set up a “prize” table for the children.  As each child arrived, the queens brought them over one by one, and each child picked out a gift bag and a crown.  The crowns were all unique as the person who donated them, and each boy’s bag was filled with a teddy bear and hero themed toys for them to enjoy.  The queens volunteers also donated bags of gifts for each child, which the children loved.

Once the party got underway, we received a special visit form a very special group of heros – The Dallas Fire Department.  The fire fighters were real troopers; they gave each child the opportunity to climb on the engine and look in the compartments of the tuck.  When the children tired of climbing on the engine, we went inside and got to watch one of the fire fighters get ready for a fire.  Afterwards, the firemen took the time to answer questions and give the children a lesson in fire safety.

Once the fire department left, the children set to making cards and bookmarks.  The parents took the boys out to blow bubble and play games in the alley, and the girls all gathered around the round kitchen table for makeovers.   While I worked with one special girl, she asked if she could do my make-up; I decided that it couldn’t hurt anything, so I left her have at.  After that, each of the children that received a makeovers decided that they too wanted to return the favor for their queen.  In a hilarious twist, each participant gave the queen volunteers a make-over in return.  The morning activities wrapped up with much giggling and photos of the “made-over” queens and their young make-up artists!

Thank you to all who came and participated. We would not have had as much fun with you.
